Letter From The Editor
2005 promises to be another busy year for RFI. We are putting the emphasis
this year on guidelines for the training and teaching of Reiki.
Those who attended our AGM submitted ideas and feedback on
what they would like us to consider in such guidelines. We are now giving you a
chance to contribute your ideas. See page 4 for further details.
A big thank you to those who attended the Social and AGM. We
appreciate your participation. Photographs of the Social can be found on page 2.
The committee would like to welcome our new committee
member Florence O' Reilly who takes over as Honorary Treasurer.
Florence comes
to RFI with much committee experience. She worked as a Nurse before being drawn
to Reiki. She currently works at Heaven & Earth Holistic Shop and is an
experienced Reiki practitioner
A big thank you to Moya Mc Ginley and Joe Mulvaney for
volunteering to help out the committee when needs be.
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new
members and to thank those of you who have renewed your membership. I welcome
your input into Reiki Today and encourage you to submit articles of interest
during the year. They were very thin on the ground in 2004!!
Looking forward to the year ahead.

Investing time in our Minds is a worthwhile
investment
It could save your life
Government officials and anthropologists believe that
ancient knowledge of the movement of wind, sea and birds may have saved five
indigenous tribes on the Indian archipelago of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. They
have a sixth sense which we don't possess, said Asish Roy a local
environmentalist and lawyer.
These Sentinelese tribes live the most ancient, nomadic
lifestyle known to man frozen in their Paleolithic past. It appears many of them
fled the shores well before the waves hit the coast.
"They can smell the wind, gauge the depth of the sea with
the sound of their oars"...
Another tribe known to have outwitted the Tsunami is the
Moken tribe. They have lived for hundreds of years off the coast of Thailand and
Burma. Commonly referred to as Sea Gypsies they did not have one casualty.
Asides from these ancient tribes who have remained connected
to the rhythms of nature the only others to have been aware that the Tsunami was
approaching were the animals. So,
what were they doing that the average tourist was oblivious to? What were they
connected to that the majority appeared deaf and blind to?
The animals operate from a part of their brain that is
sensitive to the infra red frequency. This allows them to tune in to future
potentials. Humans also have this ability, but few of us use it consciously or
develop our sensitivity to pick up on things just before they happen.
Most
adults are content with the polarity and swing of the conscious analytical mind
to ever be bothered to discipline and train the deeper mind and brain. Many who
perished considered themselves spiritual, had crystals or religious medals
around their necks. In the end what saved those who ran for the hills was their
minds and not ritual or philosophy. A rude awakening for us all. How many have
learnt from this tragedy and invested time in their minds? Precious few I guess
which is perhaps the greatest
tragedy of all!
Patients can be Taught Self-Hypnosis
Stanford University psychiatrist David Spiegel is testing whether Self-Hypnosis can
help both adults and children relax during painful or stressful medical procedures
that require them to stay awake.....Spiegel taught a Self-Hypnosis technique to 23
children aged 4 to 15 who had undergone a stressful medical test. He reported in the
Journal Pediatrics that they showed less stress, and the test was easier to conduct,
and took nearly a third less time, compared to 21 children who underwent routine
treatment.
The
Great Benefits of Tea
Tea is increasingly being recommended as a disease fighter, used to counter cancer,
heart congestion, tooth decay, stroke and weight issues says Sharon Johnson, who
teaches nutrition classes for the Oregon State University Extension Service. In
January she led a workshop at Providence Medford Medical Centre about the health
benefits of tea. 'If you drink three cups of tea a day, it's the same, in terms of
antioxidant and antibacterial effect on your body, as eating six apples,' says
Johnson. 'In tests on rodents, tea is proven to have incredible health benefits. And
it's popular in most of the world, because it stimulates without rattling you or
causing insomnia,''' quoting the Jackson County Oregon Mail Tribune.
"Spanish and British scientists have discovered how green tea helps to prevent
certain types of cancer. Researchers at the University of Murcia in Spain (UMU) and
the John Innes Centre(JIC) in Norwich, England have shown that a compound called
EGCG in green tea prevents cancer cells from growing by binding to a specific
enzyme. ' We have shown for the first time that EGCG, which is present in green tea
at relatively high concentrations, inhibits the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase
(DHFR), which is a recognized, established target for anti-cancer drugs,'''
Professor Roger Thomeley, of JIC, told Reuters. 'This is the first time, to our
knowledge, a known target for an anti - cancer drug has been identified as being
inhibited by EGCG' he added.
The
Genetics of Longevity
A scientist claims that humans could soon live to the age of 1,000. Dr. Aubrey de
Grey, a geneticist from Cambridge University says progress in stem cell research
could help to extend our lives. According to the Daily Mail quoting the Today
Programme he said: " I would put money on the fact that someone living today could
live to be 1000." He believes we are only ten years away from producing a laboratory
mouse which will extend its middle age to twice its present life span and then
indefinitely. He added: " Once we have learned how to delay the ageing process by 25
years, then the possibilities are endless.
New
Technology to Save Our Planet
The world's first hydrogen -powered motorbike has been launched in Britain. It can
reach 50mph in 12 seconds, produces no emissions and is as quiet as a laptop
computer-but that could be a problem. Anti -noise campaigners welcomed the prospect
of a motorbike without the usual earth-shattering roar. But engineers are
considering adding an artificial "vroom" as they were worried that its silence might
be dangerous!

Book
Review
"Many
Lives Many Masters" Brian
L. Weiss M.D
This is a book which has been in circulation since 1988. A
true story of a prominent Psychiatrist and his young patient and the past-life
therapy that changed both their lives this book synthesizes the psychiatrist
with the mystic.
As a traditional psychotherapist, Dr. Brian Weiss was
astonished and skeptical when one of his patients began recalling past - life
traumas that seemed to hold the key to her recurring nightmares. His skepticism
was eroded when she began to channel messages from the space between lives which
contained remarkable revelations about Dr. Weiss's family and his dead son. Using
past-life therapy, he was able to cure the patient and embark on a new and more
meaningful phase of his own career.
This book is a compelling read and is suitable for anyone with
an open and curious mind. Grounded in science Dr. Weiss has a practical approach
to a subject which is too often portrayed in a murky and dramatic way.
The book is based on a legitimate experience and not on
philosophy or glamorous and romantic notions of past lives. Written simply and
with great clarity this is a wonderful book for those who would like to understand
the concept of reincarnation and past lives.
