Practical First Aid course - September 2013

As we discussed at our AGM in 2012, The Irish Red Cross facilitated a two day work shop in Practical First Aid for Reiki Federation Ireland members.

The first course was held over the weekend of September 21st and 22nd 2013. The cost was 75 euro for the two days and took place in their branch in Fairview, Dublin (St. Josephs Primary School).

The course ran from 9 am, to 5 pm, both days. This course gives you a basic knowledge of first aid and at the end of the weekend the participants received a competence certificate. The certificate is valid for three years.

The course covered:

  • Accident Management
  • Bleeding & Shock
  • Fractures & Soft Tissue Injuries
  • Burns
  • Head Injuries
  • Basic Life Support (CPR and how to treat a choking victim)
  • Paediatric Emergencies
  • Poisons and medical illnesses

Feedback was gathered at the end of the course. Below are some comments of RFI members present:

-- "Well presented and paced".

-- "Very enjoyable and easy to understand".

-- "Well laid out, breaking up theory and practice".

Another weekend course will be organised for May 2014, dates to be confirmed.

An evening course will also be organised for next year, dates to be confirmed.
