'Practitioner Module Explained'

This event was held on Saturday 6th of June 2009, Sheldon Park Hotel

  • For our members teaching Reiki or planning on teaching Reiki in the future
  • For any RFI members interested in finding out more about this module

Why this day was important to our members

Reiki like other complementary therapies is undergoing regulation at the moment. The committee of RFI have worked tirelessly on the process of self regulation since 2003. We are acutely aware that some Reiki practitioners and Reiki teachers are not in favour of regulation of any kind.

The reality however is that in the future, if you wish to belong to a Reiki professional body, you will be required to follow certain guidelines of training and practice. The department of health is happy for Reiki to be self regulated for the present, provided we set adequate standards of training and practice. If we do not, we could face statutory regulation.

Reiki teachers who are teaching people to the level of Reiki practitioner will be required to follow the Practitioner Module guidelines.

The Practitioner Module has been agreed and voted upon by our members.  The relevant information can be found in Appendix 5 of the constitution.

All RFI members who are currently teaching Reiki or who are planning on teaching Reiki will be required to follow these guidelines.

While many of our members have been offering the Practitioner module of training for some time, we are aware that this is all new to some of our members.
The objective of this day was to give clarity on what is required if you are a Reiki teacher facilitating this level of training.

RFI committee members who have experience teaching this module were delighted to share their collective wisdom on the day.

The following points were discussed on the day:

  • Duty of Client Care
  • Professional Conduct
  • Clinical Practice
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • First Aid
  • Business Awareness
  • Membership of a Professional Body
  • Continued Professional Development
  • Case Studies
  • Health and Safety and Fire regulations
  • Legal requirements in relation to setting up your Reiki practice
